HAPPY BIRTHDAY

Hi everyone,

Twenty-five years ago, on May 17, 1989, I drove over to the tiny little Kinko's copy shop at Golf and Roselle in Schaumburg, and printed 18 copies of my new zine, King-Cat Comics #1.  So happy birthday, King-Cat!

I just want to take a moment and thank everyone who's helped me through these 25 years-- all the friends, family, and readers that have made this possible.  I couldn't, and I wouldn't, have done it without you.

Today I'm in Fort Wayne, Indiana, standing behind my table at the Appleseed Con, an appropriate place to be all these years later, I think.  There are few things I love more than comics, and it's been a privilege to be a part of this world.  Thanks!

John P.

  1. Congratulations, John!!! Greg Stump and I taught CLass Three (of Six) of our class, "Mechanics of Comics and Graphic Novels", today, and by coincidence (or maybe not) were showing slides of your comics pages. I cited your art as an example of paring images down to the essential lines needed -- eliminating the lines that are not needed.

    Viva King Cat!!!

  3. Congratulations! Thanks so much for putting King-Cat out into the world all these years.
You know, my parents thought I had been kidnapped on several occasions. The most recent time I was 23! They even called the police and then the cops started contacting my friends. They were all like, "here we go again..."

  4. Interesting to see how the first issue is similar to other zines of the time, and now you've evolved a more personal style that is inspirational to many. And yet the first issue has the seeds of today. Congrats on your longevity!

  5. Happy Birthday, King-Cat! If it weren't for you I wouldn't be making comics.

Congratulations, Mr. P! You are an inspiration. May you continue to do awesome stuff!
